Good day, brothers and sisters in Christ and fellow citizens,
A truthful community is not formed by asking its members to accept one authorised account. It grows when we listen carefully, test what we are told and refuse to abandon another human being before the complete evidence has been heard.
Last Friday, Paul S. Waugh published “God Help You, Catrin Nye”, the first in a series of open letters to BBC journalist Catrin Nye about the life-destructive production A Very British Cult.
Paul’s letter comes from years of real human suffering under a public identity imposed by a powerful institution. Yet it does not call for retaliation. Paul condemns threats, harassment and harm against Catrin Nye, Jamie Bartlett, their family and every other person involved. He calls instead for peaceful and lawful accountability, open evidential examination and the continuing possibility of repentance, restitution, restoration and reconciliation.
This matters to our community because truth and love cannot be separated. Love that refuses truth abandons those suffering beneath falsehood. Truth used without love can become another instrument of destruction. In Christ, we are called to face both the evidence and the human soul.

What the BBC and Its People Now Know
We have received extensive reports that Paul’s letter is being read and taken seriously throughout the BBC, from its most senior levels to staff across the organisation.
That knowledge brings responsibility. The BBC’s leaders, boards, journalists, producers, editors and staff can no longer reasonably treat the human consequences as distant or unknown. The institution has been directly confronted with Lighthouse’s documented case concerning approximately 140 falsehoods, omissions and distortions. It knows that the human beings publicly defined by its programming are asking for the complete evidence to be examined and for a genuinely proportionate opportunity to correct the false public record.
An institution is made up of people. Every person within it must decide what to do with what they now know. Position and process do not remove human responsibility.
The same principle governs us at Lighthouse. We must examine ourselves beneath Christ’s authority, listen where criticism is true, repent where we have been wrong and make restitution wherever it is required. A call for accountability that exempts ourselves would not be a call for truth.
Six Commentaries, One Governing Invitation
Throughout this week, six commentaries developed the central challenges of Paul’s letter. Each approached the issue from a different direction, but all returned to one invitation: come into the light and allow the complete evidence to be tested.
Part One placed human responsibility beneath the institutional name. The BBC cannot select, omit, edit, accuse or broadcast without people making those choices. Yet the responsibility does not end inside Broadcasting House. As citizens, we also choose whether to repeat claims we have not examined, condemn people we have not heard and distance ourselves from those whom an institution has marked as unacceptable.
A healthy community does not protect wrongdoing through blind loyalty. Nor does it sacrifice a neighbour merely because institutional authority makes abandonment feel respectable.
Part Two considered why Paul’s letter is receiving serious attention after years in which Lighthouse’s evidence and requests for meaningful reply were resisted. Private concern is not enough. The public test is whether the BBC will now examine the complete record, correct material falsehood and participate in repairing the diabolical Life Destruction its programming produced.
Anything less risks becoming reputation management rather than responsibility.
Part Three examined how destructive conduct may be placed upon the very people carrying its consequences, reversing victim and offender. But this insight must never become a convenient way for Lighthouse to locate every fault elsewhere. We must test every criticism, confess what is true and remain willing to change.
That symmetry matters. The standard we ask the BBC and its sources to face must first search our own hearts and conduct.
Part Four returned to the invitation Lighthouse has repeatedly made to Catrin Nye, Jamie Bartlett, the BBC and its sources: bring the strongest allegations, let Lighthouse bring the complete records and submit both to a fair and reciprocal examination.
A refusal to participate does not by itself settle every disputed fact. It does, however, leave the BBC’s global account protected from the fullest available test. If the work can withstand scrutiny, open examination should strengthen rather than threaten it.
Part Five asked what happens when those who publicly examined and defined other human beings are themselves called to account. Professional appearance is not the same as truthfulness. Compassionate language is not the same as repentance. The decisive question is whether those responsible will relinquish control of the image, enter the light and address the evidence and human consequences.
Part Six examined Catrin Nye’s Instagram response. Her video referred to the letter’s title, length and distribution, but did not show her audience its substantive contents: Paul’s condemnation of harassment and harm, his invitation to evidential examination, his continuing offer of peaceful resolution or his concern for her as a human being, for her soul and for her journey to Christ.
Readers should not have to choose between competing summaries. The complete letter is available. Read it, test it and judge its words directly.
The Responsibility of a Christian Community
These six commentaries are not merely about the conduct of one journalist or one broadcaster. They confront every community with difficult questions.
Will we listen before answering? Will we distinguish an allegation from an established fact? Will we remain beside those suffering under public condemnation while still testing their conduct honestly? Will we make room for repentance and repair, or do we prefer a permanent enemy?
Christ is the governing authority because He is the Truth. That means neither Lighthouse nor the BBC may place itself above examination. It also means that correction must seek more than victory. We seek the protection of life, the restoration of truth and, as far as possible, reconciliation with God and one another.
The public destruction of reputations, identities, credibility, livelihoods and future possibility does not remain on a screen. It enters homes, friendships, churches, workplaces and souls. Every citizen who reads, shares, rejects or investigates a claim becomes part of what follows.
That is why this week’s appeal is simple: do not outsource your conscience. Read the complete letter. Examine the evidence. Pray for everyone involved. Refuse threats and harassment. Refuse also the easier cruelty of condemning people without hearing them.

Thank you for last week's articles and updates; they have once again been very powerful and eye-opening. Once again, the BBC are avoiding responsibility, brushing things under the carpet as they did with the Savile case.
There is no contrition at the BBC. However, the truth is being told, and people are opening their eyes to what is going on. The record will be corrected.
It's powerful to not just have the open letter for Catrin Nye, but to have an accompanying commentary series that further expands, explains and builds upon what Paul S. Waugh has shared in this heartfelt and human communication. It's damning that Catrin Nye and the most senior people at the BBC lack the humility, wisdom and repentance to be able to sit down and work out a solution to the huge problem they've created for themselves.
The response to the open letter to Catrin Nye will be very telling. There is a lot of important detail in Paul Waugh’s letter and the commentary surrounding A Very British Cult, and it deserves an honest examination. The BBC has a responsibility to address legitimate questions about its journalism rather than simply allowing difficult issues to disappear from view. Truth and transparency matter, and I hope these concerns are eventually addressed openly.
The BBC can stick their fingers in their ears and sing all they like, but they cannot ignore this forever. They may try to avoid it and have gone to great lengths to do so. But this letter, its commentaries and all subsequent letters are, in my view, a revolutionary and unwavering commitment to transparency. Until the BBC can rigorously and honestly deal with the subject of ANY complaints against them, the public will always know that their public broadcaster has cared more about its standing and its political and social agenda than it has the people it is claiming to inform, educate and entertain.
